Identification Services for Moulds
The identification of foodborne fungi is a complex subject that can be confusing to the non-specialist. Many foodborne fungi look similar to each other, and require special treatments to separate them. Some fungi will only grow on certain media, under certain conditions, or produce their specialised structures under particular conditions.
We can offer a fungal identification service that can be tailored to your needs, providing simple identification to genus only, or identify to species level in most cases, as required.
Our expertise in diagnosing fungal problems in foods means that we can offer advice as well as identification. In many cases, knowledge of why the mould is growing in your product and the methods for control are equally important. For example, it may be that exclusion methods are required for some types of contamination, but for others, a reformulation may be required to eliminate the problem, or an adjustment to the process.
