Date: Thursday 19th and Friday 20th April 2012 Venue: Leatherhead Food Research, Randalls Road, Leatherhead, Surrey, KT22 7RY
The IFST is proud to present a two-day event designed to attract a cross section of Food Scientists, Technologists and Nutritionists.
Topics in the main Conference entitled Nutrition for Olympians: Nutrition for All (Lessons for Food Science & Technology from the Sports Nutrition Sector), on the 20th April, are wide-ranging and will be presented by speakers coming from industry, academia and research organisations.
Overview Day 1
On the afternoon of Thursday 19th April there will be a Student Competition, supported with prizes from Marks and Spencer, the Society of Chemical Industry, and sponsored by Leatherhead Food Research, in which undergraduate and post-graduate students, in two competitions, will present short papers on their research. A panel of judges will assess the presentations and determine the winners and runners up in each category.
This competition is free for all IFST members and non-members to attend and hear the students' presentations (please indicate that you would like to attend on the registration form). It will be of interest to both industrialists and academics wishing to meet talented young food scientists and technologists.
Following the student competition, and again free to attend if you are registered for the Conference on Day 2, is the Binsted Lecture, organised by the IFT. Please indicate that you would like to attend on the registration form; if you are not registered for the Conference on Day 2, a fee of £15 will apply.
Attendance at the Binsted Lecture may contribute up to 1 hour of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as defined by your assessment body.
To complete the programme for Day 1, the IFST AGM Dinner is being held the evening of 19th April, at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. The pre-dinner drinks are sponsored by Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL).
The Conference, held on Friday 20th April, entitled Nutrition for Olympians: Nutrition for All - Lessons for Food Science & Technology from the Sports Nutrition Sector is designed to cover the nutritional, commercial and legal aspects of products designed and marketed for athletes. The programme has a good balance of academic and commercial topics and it is intended that lessons can be learned and passed on to enable food scientists and technologists to design suitable and safe products for the good of the general public.
The Conference is sponsored by Coca-Cola and supported by Leatherhead Food Research. There will be opportunities throughout the day to spend time at the trade exhibition and to tour Leatherhead Food Research's Nutrition Unit. Places for the tours of the Nutrition Unit will be made by completion of an application form at Registration. Numbers on each of the tours will be limited to 25, so ‘a first come first served basis’ will be operated.
Attendance at the IFST Conference may contribute up to 4 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as defined by your assessment body.
