Cocoa offers consistent benefits for heart health.
Consumption of cocoa and the compounds it contains offer significant and 'consistent' benefits to blood flow and blood pressure, says a new meta-analysis of 42 studies.
Survey indicated that budget foods are healthier than more expensive versions.
The Sun has carried out an investigation of supermarket foods, which concluded that budget ranges are 'healthier than their pricier rivals'. The study involved comparing budget foods with 'upmarket' versions at Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco. The more expensive items were found to be less healthy, owing to higher levels of sugar and saturated fat. It is proposed that the budget versions are more healthy because manufacturers use less of the 'rich ingredients', which are more expensive. The article highlights the case of Asda's Extra Special pasta sauces, which have five times the amount of sugar and saturated fat than the Smartprice version; and Tesco's Finest fruit and nut muesli, which has three times the amount of sugar as the Value product.
The Financial Times (3.2.2012) discussed the success of British brands in India, noting that many such brands fill the shelves of retailers across the country. It particularly cites the case of Horlicks, owned by GlaxoSmithKline, which is said to be loved by Indian children, and is chosen by mothers in preference to more sugary beverages. The British drink is manufactured in India with malted barley and buffalo milk, and is a bestseller. Other British products that have seen 'overwhelming' success in India include Cadbury's chocolate bars, Woodward's Gripe Water and McVitie's digestive biscuits. Many of the groups that produce traditional British brands have now listed in India, and are said to be spurring other UK consumer groups to break into India's fast-growing economy.
