Clients benefit from access to Leatherhead's broad range of analysis and testing expertise.
Nutritional Analysis
At Leatherhead Food Research we are able to offer comprehensive UKAS-accredited nutritional analysis services for all areas of the food industry.
These services include all analyses required for Group 1 and Group 2 nutritional labelling. The UK Government recommends that Group 2 information is placed on all foods on a voluntary basis as this provides consumers with information on the key health-related nutrients.
Vitamins
Food companies need accurate data on the concentration of vitamins added as fortificants. This is to meet regulatory and consumer requirements for package labelling and also to closely control vitamin dosage in production to minimise waste.
We have a long-established vitamin testing service using high performance liquid chromatography for measurement of vitamins B1, B2, B6, niacin, C, E, D, A, B12, folic acid, and biotin. Vitamin B5 can be analysed by microbiological microtitre test plate methodology.
Minerals
Leatherhead can also offer fast and efficient screening services for a comprehensive range of minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc).
Phytochemicals
Phytochemicals - a term covering a range of compounds such as carotenoids and polyphenols in foods - are of great interest due to their potential health benefits as well as chemical characteristics such as colour or their ability to act as antioxidants or antimicrobials. Common techniques used to measure these are HPLC or LC-MS, or groups of compounds may be measured by colorimetric or 'antioxidant' assays.
PUFA
We also offer Omega 3 and 6, and trans fatty acid analysis.
Allergen testing
Leatherhead provides a range of procedures to test for allergens, including UKAS-accredited enzyme linked immuno-sorbant assay (ELISA), analysis of allergen levels in swabs (to check for contamination of production lines) and lactose by ion chromatography.
Back-of-Pack
Leatherhead also offers a complete solution that will ensure the accuracy of data, and also help you manage the critical timeline by generating all the essential back-of-pack information and providing you with a tailored consolidated report featuring all the information that you require.
