Leatherhead’s Nutrition Unit boasts state-of-the-art facilities that have been designed to support the high demand for the complete range of nutrition intervention studies. The purpose-built unit includes two large volunteer suites, built for the comfort of the participants, two eating areas designed specifically for all types of nutrition feeding trials, a diet kitchen for the preparation of the test meals, and a clinical room for blood collection and other clinical interventions. All have been innovatively designed to allow for high throughput studies in a timely and cost-effective way while still adhering to the highest clinical standards.
Metabolic testing:
Subjective measurements of appetite
Glycaemic Index (GI), glycaemic response and insulin response
Cholesterol and triglyceride measurements
24-hour monitoring of blood glucose and blood pressure
Accurate testing of health biomarkers to substantiate health claims
Satiety and weight management:
Quantitative assessment of appetite using questionnaires
Energy intake at the next meal (ad libitum)
Measurement of gut hormones
Dietary analysis using food frequency questionnaire and food diaries to investigate dietary habits
