Clients benefit from access to Leatherhead's broad range of analysis and testing expertise.
Nutritional Analysis
At Leatherhead Food Research we are able to offer comprehensive UKAS-accredited nutritional analysis services for all areas of the food industry.
These services include all analyses required for Group 1 and Group 2 nutritional labelling. The UK Government recommends that Group 2 information is placed on all foods on a voluntary basis as this provides consumers with information on the key health-related nutrients.
New “Express” Service Launched
Group 2 Nutritional Analysis: Two-day turnaround Responding to increasing demands on industry to get products on the shelf faster, reduce approval process time and meet pack copy deadlines, we have introduced a new two-working-day nutritional Group 2 service, at competitive prices.
Food companies need accurate data on the concentration of vitamins added as fortificants. This is to meet regulatory and consumer requirements for package labelling and also to closely control vitamin dosage in production to minimise waste.
We have a long-established vitamin testing service that uses a combination of high performance liquid chromatography, allowing for measurement of vitamins B1, B2, B6, niacin, C, E, D and A, and the latest biosensor technology to test for B12, folic acid, and biotin.
Minerals
Leatherhead can also offer fast and efficient screening services for a comprehensive range of minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc).
Antioxidants
Antioxidants - a term covering a range of compounds in foods - are of great interest due to their ability to prevent deterioration of foods and increasingly due to their potential health benefits. Measurement of antioxidants may be carried out using ‘total antioxidant' assays or by analysis of defined compounds.
PUFA
We also offer Omega 3 and 6, and trans fatty acid analysis.
Allergen testing
Leatherhead provides a range of procedures to test for allergens, including UKAS-accredited enzyme linked immuno-sorbant assay (ELISA), analysis of allergen levels in swabs (to check for contamination of production lines), assays for lactose and sulphur dioxide, and DNA based assays.
Same-day ELISA Allergen Testing Service Leatherhead has launched a same-day ELISA testing service for allergens in response to recent incidents whereby same-day analysis was of significant benefit to food manufacturers.
Most food manufacturers have procedures in place to control any allergen risk and to label food correctly according to these regulations. However, occasionally cross-contamination can occur, either within a factory or as part of the supply chain. In such instances, a supportive and rapid response from a reliable testing laboratory can be of significant help to anyone dealing with such a critical situation.
Leatherhead’s Food Chemistry Laboratory is UKAS accredited for the detection of a number of allergens using the ELISA technique. Tests must be booked in advance, and samples received by 09.00, to guarantee the same-day service.
Leatherhead also offers a complete solution that will ensure the accuracy of data, and also help you manage the critical timeline by generating all the essential back-of-pack information and providing you with a tailored consolidated report featuring all the information that you require.
