STEM bursary scheme

Science Group's STEM Bursary Scheme is an initiative offered across the group (including Sagentia, OTM Consulting, Oakland Innovation and Leatherhead Food Research) which aims to support the development of science and engineering skills in the UK. It builds on the success of our existing initiatives, including our student internship programme and graduate recruitment scheme, which have contributed strongly to the growing pool of expertise amongst the Cambridge Cluster.

Individual bursary value: £2,500 per academic year

Number of bursaries provided each academic year: Up to 10

Participating universities: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Southampton, University of Bath, Loughborough University, University of Surrey, University of Strathclyde.

Eligible courses: Degree courses in chemistry, computer science, electronic engineering, engineering, food science, geology, geosciences, life sciences, mathematics, materials science, mechanical engineering, microbiology, nutrition, physics, product design or similar.

Restrictions: A proportion of the bursaries will be allocated to Scholars that come from households with an income of under £42,000 (self-declared initially and then subsequently corroborated by the University). Scholars should not receive more than £1000 from any other corporate bursary or scholarship scheme in the same application year. A previous recipient of a bursary who has not subsequently applied for a position in the Group should not receive any further bursary from the scheme.

Recruitment procedure: The University advertises bursaries and directs applications to Sagentia's website. Scholars will apply directly to Sagentia, via an application form on the Sagentia website. They will then follow Science Group's selection process. Science Group will inform the University of its decision and request verification of eligibility. Scholars are eligible to apply each year of their study.

Eligible scholars: Scholars who have accepted a provisional place on an eligible course. Those studying in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year on an eligible course.

Requirements of scholars: Scholars currently at university studying in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year are required to be graded 2:1 or higher
