The opportunity
Leatherhead Research Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join our busy Membership News Team . The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Head of Membership and supervised by the Content Quality Controller.

The role is full-time and will be based at our Great Burgh office, Epsom. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge and to progress their career.

A day in the life
Your day will start off by looking at all the News feeds and other News sources that have come in overnight prioritising and abstracting the most interesting stories in the areas of nutrition and innovation and other articles. Working with the Content Quality Controller you will pull the Daily Food News together including appropriate links and send it out to members. Your morning will also be spent adding the information to the database. This could be followed by a search of what in new in Scopus scientific database and sending it to relevant people in the organisation or you may have been asked to research a particular topic for example nutrition and health trends. In the afternoon you will review a research paper on Single Use plastic and help to shape the narrative or input into a Regulatory client project needing a search of the news looking at particularly trends or countries.

1. Delivery of Daily Food News
2. To be Leatherhead’s account manager for Scopus scientific database (desirable)
3. Helping with editing and articulating the implications (what if, so what) for the food industry in membership publications
4. Contribute news information for Regulatory projects
5. Adherence to Group policies

1. Delivery of Daily Food News
o To be responsible for the selection and abstraction of news items from the major national and international papers and magazines, such as The Grocer, for the Leatherhead Daily News in nutrition and innovation.
o To scan print and digital journals, as well as daily emails from various organisations, such as Gov.UK, and journals for any information suitable for inclusion in the Daily News or of interest to Leatherhead staff.
o To process the RSS Newsfeeds and enter them into the Master file for the day’s news.
o To send out the Daily Food News email to members via Pardot and batch articles into the Access database.

2. To be Leatherhead’s account manager for Scopus.
o To provide assistance in and carry out Scopus, Google Scholar and Google News searches for members of staff.
o To scan Scopus alerts from the top 20 food-related universities globally and in the UK for relevant information to be sent to Leatherhead staff. To forward alerts set up for Leatherhead staff to them on a weekly basis.
o To help Leatherhead staff locate Leatherhead publications, such as Research Reports, and find where scientific papers can be obtained from.

3. Editing and understanding the implications (what if, so what) for the food industry in membership publications
o Editing information provided by the Regulatory team for weekly regulatory update and articulating the implication for the food industry (desirable)
o Editing and articulating the implications in the member regulatory research papers on topical issues

4. Using News information for Regulatory projects
o Compiling information from searches from the news sourcesto feed into client projects

5. Adherence to Group policies
o Maintain client confidentiality
o Take responsibility for your own health, safety and welfare, and that of anyone affected by your acts or omissions at work.
o Follow company and/or statutory rules and procedures provided for your safety and security.
o Adhere to project management practices to ensure projects are delivered to time, budget and the quality expected

Experience and qualifications required:
• Experience of abstracting information from a range of different sources
• Confident/eloquent writer and
• Ability to edit and articulate the implications for the food industry in Regulatory updates and white papers. You will receive support for this from the Regulatory team but it is useful to have a questioning mind (desirable)
• Regulatory interest/knowledge preferred but not essential
• Have a proactive, positive and enthusiastic “can do” attitude
• Have enthusiasm to work within multidisciplinary teams and multi-task across projects.
• Have excellent organisational and time management skills
• Team player
• Science degree or equivalent
• 2 years’ plus experience of working in a food industry
