Science Group plc launches 2016 STEM bursary

29 July, 2016

Science Group plc (SAG), a leading provider of independent advisory and advanced product development services focused on science and technology initiatives, has opened applications for its annual STEM Bursary scheme.

Applications are invited across all Science Group companies, comprising Sagentia, OTM Consulting, Oakland Innovation and Leatherhead Food Research, with the aim of supporting the growth and development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills in the UK.

Each year Science Group grants up to 10 bursaries of £2,500 to students across a range of STEM courses at leading universities across the UK, including University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Southampton, University of Bath, University of Strathclyde and Loughborough University. The scheme was originally launched in 2013 and since then more than 25 STEM based students have been awarded bursaries. Many of the recipients also go on to join the group for summer and year placements, providing an opportunity to get real life industry experience.

Mustafa Caglar, a graduate from Southampton University, comments: “I received a Science Group bursary in 2015 and it was a transformative support. It meant that I could complete my final year of uni with less of a financial burden. Most valuable, however, was the relationship formed with Sagentia, leading to an incredibly enjoyable 10 week placement.”

Many of the participating universities have been part of the scheme since it was launched in 2013 and have seen the positive impact it has had on their students.

Laura Hutchinson, Development Executive at Loughborough University, says: “Loughborough University is proud to be working with Science Group on their STEM bursary programme. It has enabled Loughborough students to facilitate their learning both on and off campus, giving them fantastic opportunities to progress their careers in the future.”

The scheme is part of Science Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme which focuses on community outreach and STEM education.

Tamara Kahn, Corporate Development Director at Science Group, comments: “Science, technology and engineering are core to who we are and what we do. As we work with clients across the world we see the value and impact of UK science & technology innovation and our investment in STEM education reflects our commitment to the future of our industry. We’re very pleased to be able to offer this support and it’s been great to see some of the recent bursary recipients joining us for summer and year placements.”

Students should apply through any of the Science Group websites. The closing date for applications is 16 September 2016.
